Obituaries » Stephen Mrenna April 17, 1930 - December 31, 2021 On Friday, Dec 31, 2021, Steve died at home, peacefully, in his sleep. He was born in Wilkinsburg, PA, on April 17, 1930 to Stephen Mrenna and Maria (nee Takach). A graduate of Wilkinsburg High School and the University of Pittsburgh, Steve earned his degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a Korean War Veteran, having served as a first lieutenant with the Army Corps of Engineers SCARWAF unit, building airstrips in Taegu, Korea. Steve was employed by Westinghouse and spent his career designing and testing circuit breakers. He has 61 patents credited to his name on the subject. He was awarded the George Westinghouse Silver Award in 1980 and in 1995 he became the first Tech Center employee to be awarded the Westinghouse Order of Merit, the highest recognition given by the Corporation. Steve loved his job, and was fascinated with breaker design and application. He rarely visited a home without asking to see the circuit breaker box. Close friends and family will remember Steve for his love of fishing. One could say that he had the patience of a saint while waiting for a trout to find his line. Steve always considered the best catch of his life to be MaryAnn (nee Hanchak) to whom he was married for over 67 1/2 years. He was a loving and devoted father to John Andrew (Susan), Barbara Geisler (Marty), and Stephen(Maureen); and a proud and loving grandfather of Becky Evenden (Jonathan), James Geisler (Heather), Stacey Rowand (Jeff), Theresa Green, Jonathan Mrenna(Amanda), Amy Geisler; Emily, Stephen, Abigail, Timothy, Brigid and Rose Mrenna.
