Obituaries » Mary Margaret Whitmer November 12, 1930 - September 15, 2023 Mary Margaret Whitmer, 92, of South Beaver Twp, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2023. Born November 12, 1930 in Detroit, MI, she was the daughter of the late Fred W. and Mary (Martyn) Becker. She was a 1948 graduate of Whitmer High School, Toledo, OH. She married Richard D. Whitmer, USN, in Port Hueneme, CA, on Apr. 23, 1954. She was active with the BeeLiners, an organization for Navy wives, and served as its President. During their Navy years she resided in California (1954-1964) and Rhode Island (1964-1967), moving to Connersville, IN, upon their retirement from the Navy, eventually settling the family in Beaver in 1972. Margaret and her husband Richard co-owned the River Junction Train and Hobby Shop in Beaver from 1981 to 1985. She served as a volunteer at the Beaver County Geriatric Center, as well as Meals on Wheels, as she was always ready to lend a warm hand and a loving heart to anyone in need. She was formerly employed by Correct Foundry and Sears. Although not an active church member in her later years, she had attended Holy Trinity Lutheran, Beaver; Bridgewater United Methodist, Bridgewater; Assembly of God, Beaver, and Christ Presbyterian, South Beaver Twp. Margaret is survived by her sons, Keith A. Whitmer, South Beaver and Brian D. Whitmer, Silver Spring, MD; grandson E. Matthew (Courtney) Whitmer and great-granddaughter Cheyenne Whitmer, West Mayfield; special grandson David Carter, South Beaver; sister-in-law Judy Clare, Westerville, OH; nephew Randy (Terry) Gaeth, Aurora, OH; nieces Laurie (Bill) Wright, Powell, OH, and Candice Clare, Charlotte, NC; grand-dogs Buddy and Millie; along with countless friends and relatives. In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Richard D. Whitmer, her in-laws Lawrence and Irene (Kane) Whitmer, brothers-in-law Roger Whitmer and Michael Clare and nephew Scot Gaeth. The Whitmer family wishes to extend our heartfelt appreciation to everyone at Celebration Villa of Chippewa, and the Gateway hospice team, for their warmth, care, and support.
