Julia T Maloney (Torres), 88, passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Rochester Manor.
Julia was a proud of her Mexican heritage as she was of her family. She was one of the 13 Torres children. Julia was the daughter of Jose and Irene Vitella Torres, and is survived by siblings Louise Torres, Cecelia “Cookie” Torres, Eleanor “Tootsie” (Stanley) Olash, Jessie “Chewy” (Patty) Torres, and preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Ernest “Tony” (Marie), Roselia “Chio”, Jose (Juanita), Gregoria Henry “Hank/Ronny” (Loretta), Richard “Tito”, Irene Trevino (Arthur), Andrea “Lala”, and Sara Mireles (Frank).
She is also preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, James F. Maloney Jr in 2012.

She was a graduate of Lincoln High School, Midland, a violinist in the orchestra, a featured soloist in the acapella choir, she was known to many throughout her life as the Midland-born coloratura soprano with unbelievable talent. She performed multiple concerts for the veterans throughout her high school years and upon graduation, a faithful cantor and member of the choir at St. Christine and St. Blaise Catholic Church (formerly Presentation Church), part of the Eucharistic Chorus for the 1976 Bicentennial in Philadelphia, soloist for the Crucible Steel Corporation Men’s chorus and musicians and soloist for the Monaca Valovi Tamburitzan group performing traditional music of Croatia, Servia, and Bosnia, performed in Canada, Ohio, Philadelphia amongst others to sing and play her prim (a.k.a bisernica). She even cut records over the years and was on the radio. Music was her passion and even met her husband, “Jimmy”, in her high school choir. She and “Jimmy” would go on to have a wonderful life together with their two children: James G. Maloney (Tina) and Judith M Barrett (Robert), and she loved to be surrounded by her grandchildren, Eric J. Bishop (Krystal Wolfe), J. Christopher and Katelyn O. Maloney, and John P. and Joseph A. Barrett, along with being a great-grandmother to Kira Anne Bishop.
Julia enjoyed family gatherings where she hosted large parties at her home where a pinata for the children to scramble for candies was always fun, along with overflowing tables of Mexican favorites. She adored her family and with the help of her husband and siblings entered several Fourth of July Floats in the Midland parade. During Christmas gatherings, she would lead the entire family in “The Twelve Days of Christmas”, and everyone would have to sing no matter what. Everyone laughed and had a good time.

Friends will be received Tuesday from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the Schwerha-Noll Funeral Home, 600 Beaver Avenue, Midland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:30 AM at St. Blaise Catholic Church, 772 Ohio Avenue, Midland. Online condolences may be shared at www.nollfuneral.com.
Interment will follow at Beaver Cemetery.

Thank you so very much for your kind expression of sympathy in our time of sorrow, you were there for us from beginning to end, plus more. You prepared Rocky in such a handsome and peaceful way, prior to that viewing I saw only pain and suffering. It helped remind me of peaceful and happy times. What else can a grateful heart say.

Mark, Alex & Staff Our family is very grateful for the caring and thoughtful way you handled Marian's viewing and service. We thought the work done by Patty on the pictures was tremendous as it brought out the essence of Marian & it was a nice tribute to her. The viewing set up and floral arranging was very nice, we thank you for kindly handling our every request. It was also supportive to know that all the visitors would receive a friendly welcome at the door even long after normal visiting hours. And we only see what’s not “behind the scenes”. It’s obvious these things are well done too. Your help with things beyond the funeral itself is also much appreciated.

It's never easy to lose a loved one but the kind and compassionate service that Mark and his team provided certainly reduced our burden. They were absolutely amazing and we didn't have to worry about a thing. They handled every last detail so that we could spend the time grieving the loss of our father and husband. The help that my mom is still receiving from them is beyond comforting to me and my brother. Words cannot express our deepest thanks and gratitude.
