Ann P. Oakes
Born June 28, 1931 in New Brighton, she was a daughter of the late Elmer and Alberta (Mennell) Cunningham. Ann graduated from New Brighton High School in 1949, continuing her education at Geneva College, Beaver Falls, where she earned a degree in Business Education. Upon graduation, she began her teaching career at Lincoln High School, Midland where she spent 7 years before moving on to Beaver Area High School for another 13. Ann was a faithful and vital member of the First Presbyterian Church, Beaver, and also actively participated in the community as a volunteer with the First Presbyterian Church office, a docent at the Beaver Area Historical Association Log Cabin Museum, and as a member of the Century Club. Since August of 2013, she had resided at Beaver Meadows Assisted Living, Brighton Township.
Ann will be sadly missed by her beloved husband of 60 years, John “Jack” R. Oakes; two daughters, Pamela (Mark “Skip” Federoff) Oakes, Vanport Township, and Paula (John) Misorski, Brighton Township; her cherished grandchildren, Alex (Lisa) Barney, MS, Shawn (Lindsey Wilson) Barney, Hopewell Township, Lance (Hillary Barwick) Barney, TN, and Matthew and Megan Misorski, Beaver; along with 2 great-grandchildren, Ada and Beckham Barney. Ann adored her grandchildren and gave them all nicknames, fondly calling them Ax, Shawny Bonny Barney, Lancelot, Matt Hatter, and Meg Mug.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Cunningham.
Friends will be received Wednesday, January 25, 2017, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the Noll Funeral Home, Inc., 333 Third St., Beaver. A funeral service will be conducted by her pastor, Reverend Jeffrey A. Arnold, Thursday, January 26, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Beaver, with interment to follow at Beaver Cemetery, Beaver. Online condolences may be shared at nollfuneral.com.
Memorial contributions in Ann’s name may be made if desired to First Presbyterian Church, 252 College Avenue, Beaver, PA 15009.
